ABSTRACT

Although politically situated as part of Northern Nigeria (North Central), Ilorin is popularly known to Nigerians as “the gateway town between the Northern and the Southern parts of Nigeria.” Anyone crossing to the north from the southwest may often pass through Ilorin and vice versa. Ilorin is just about 100 km away from Oyo and 40 km from Ogbomoso (both cities in the southwest), on latitude North 8°30′ and longitude East 4°35′, 1 and occupies savannah grassland, which forms its vegetation. 2
