ABSTRACT

One of Maconchy’s tasks in this period was to sort out Ina Boyle’s library of music, music books, and manuscripts (which went to Trinity College, Dublin). She was also to write a brief appreciation of her friend. 1 Maconchy was outraged at a motion giving the Executive Committee of the Composers’ Guild ‘mandatory powers over its members’ and resigned from the EC in protest. Williams, however, saw the resolution as a welcome step towards something approaching unionisation for composers.
