ABSTRACT

Letters in this section are intermittent, often with months passing between those that survive. There is also a gap of nearly a year between the last letter in the previous section and the next surviving letter, written after 22 February 1937. In that time, several of Maconchy’s works had received important performances, such as the first broadcast of Great Agrippa (15 April 1936), or her Piano Concerto performed by Harriet Cohen at a Prom (2 September 1936) and at a Reid Orchestral Concert (3 December 1936). Her Second String Quartet was first performed at a Lemare concert on 1 February 1937 by the Brosa Quartet.
