ABSTRACT
The EU model of integration has delivered long-term growth and economic and social convergence unmatched anywhere else in the world. However, the model is threatened by the uneven and unequal territorial and social effects of globalisation, technological change and EU integration on employment opportunities and living standards, combined with the difficulties or unwillingness of European societies to accept and integrate large-scale migration from poorer or war-torn parts of the world.
