ABSTRACT
My thesis is that important changes in academic mission are accompanied by structural changes during times of major innovation in higher education. The main structural elements are Finances, Organization, and Governance (F.O.G.)—an apt mnemonic for aspects of institutions that are seldom well understood by the public, much less by the faculty and students who depend on them.
