ABSTRACT

Professional learning opportunities for teachers of science have, in the past few years, revolved more and more around the Next Generation Science Standards. This has led, as we’ve noted throughout the book, to many trends that include a focus on inquiry, the integration of scientific phenomenon, and more intentional uses of writing. The cross-cutting themes in the NGSS, too, provide teachers with new ways of thinking about curriculum and organizing instruction. While all change, especially change in educational practices, takes time, we are pleased to know that the NGSS have moved teachers in new directions.
