As in other parts of the developing world, television's availability and use in the Arab region have grown rapidly over the past decade and are still very much on the increase. Concurrently, there is growing interest in the medium on the part of development agencies all around the world. Al Manaahil is one clear expression of this interest. Another is the increase in the number of developing countries interested in creating children's series modeled on CTW's Sesame Street. For example, coproductions have been done in Mexico, Brazil, the Philippines, Kuwait, and Turkey, and CTW has received additional inquiries from countries like India and Indonesia. One result of the general growth of the field is an increased interest in research in the developing countries to better determine television's potential in such key areas as education, health promotion, and agriculture.
