ABSTRACT

Numerous good books and articles exist on U.S.-West European history but there is no comprehensive study dealing specifically with U.S.-EC relations in historical perspective. It is therefore important to establish our reflections on contemporary U.S.-EC relations on a solid background. Such an exercise is worthwhile for two other reasons: first, new historical documents have been published. 1 Second, the history of U.S.-EC relations should be analyzed within the new context created by the post-Cold War period.
