ABSTRACT
The dramatic events of 2014 in Ukraine fundamentally changed the state institutions, the public sphere and the geopolitical situation. The war in the Donbas is still going on. Every week, several soldiers are killed or wounded in action. The Russian strategy of destabilising Ukraine turns out to have produced ambivalent results. On the one hand, Ukraine’s ambitions to be integrated into Western military and political structures have been severely hampered. On the other hand, the former close relationship between Russia and Ukraine has been destroyed for good. At the moment there are no winners in this conflict. Ukraine still has to walk a long path until a peaceful, democratic and prosperous society can be established.
