ABSTRACT
The practice of using metrical tests to decide the authorship of disputed poems is becoming increasingly prevalent. It is unfortunate, however, that any two critics using the same test may arrive at totally opposite conclusions. This disagreement is, no doubt, partially due to the uncertainty of the whole subject. But two essential considerations seem to have been generally neglected.
