13I’ve heard it said many times that there is no point in trying to prepare for an interview, because you don’t know what the committee is going to ask. Nothing could be further from the truth. In his article about interviewing in a changing job market, Murty (2014) points out,

…a good number of candidates, despite having good academic background and track record, are not able to secure the jobs that they really want, for they are not able to handle the personal interview—the critical phase in the selection process—meaningfully and competently.
