ABSTRACT
Lea Thompson begins by talking about how she broke into directing via a series of movies she was acting in, the Jane Doe films. She moves on to talk about the importance of passion and breathing new life into a show, and explains what it was like directing on the series Switched at Birth, on which she was also a star. She gives advice to those who want to direct, saying that the most important thing is to get any on-set job possible. She also talks about how important it is to figure out where the power lies on any given show, and how to get the most out of actors by making them feel valued. She explains how she got the job directing The Goldbergs, and how it differed from the multi-camera sitcom Mom. She talks about how technology can be utilized to cover yourself, and finishes by explaining why between directing and acting, she chooses directing.
