ABSTRACT
Every school should have a mission statement and vision of fluency that everyone who is a stakeholder understands and can articulate. A mission statement is a short written statement about your goals and philosophies regarding math fluency in your school. The mission statement should discuss what your school does to develop mathematicians, how it does it, and why it does it. It is really an expression of your values around teaching and learning math. In order to get a clear understanding of the mission around fluency, you should have teachers submit a quick statement either on a piece of paper or through an online survey system, like SurveyMonkey or Poll Everywhere. Then, discuss the statements and come up with a shared mission statement. It should be clear, concise, specific, and useful so that everyone can understand and execute it (see Figs. 10.1–10.3).
