ABSTRACT

A corollary to the increasing magnitude of digitization in commerce is the proliferation of datapoints that are created on a daily basis. While there are likely many datapoints that can help contribute to unique insights, there can also be a great deal of noise. To identify the value-add within especially large sets of data, special skills, tools, and creative thinking can be tremendously helpful. Thankfully, there are a variety of courses and models available online to assist, and many of these are free (or freemium) and open-source. The data may be numerical (structured), or include text, images, or audio (unstructured). Platforms that can be helpful with organizing this information into meaningful insights consist of statistical packages, graphics software, and clustering algorithms.
