ABSTRACT

The belief that internal and external political conflicts have a reciprocal relationship has been accepted by most of the disciplines concerned with research on wars and conflicts. Social scientists have put forward two main propositions concerning the relationship between internal and external conflicts. The first states that growth of an external conflict causes or is connected with a growth or decline of the internal conflict. The second proposition, which treats external conflict as a dependent variable, states that its increase or decrease depends on variations of the internal conflict.
