ABSTRACT

The village of Pécsely today bears little resemblance to the three small communes which existed in the valley before World War II. Chapter 1 aimed to dispel the appearance of unchanging stability even in the pre-war period, but also aimed to show that 'change' took on a new meaning after 1945, a difference that lies in centralized planning and the way it was carried out, compared to the far more gradual and unguided changes which occurred before that time.
