The Land Reform of 1945

The land reform of 1945 was the first measure which struck at the basis of land ownership, significantly altering the economic structure of rural Hungary. After completion of the land reform, matters did not rest, for collectivization followed on its heels and, in many ways, the reform had opened the way towards it. ¹ The land reform was indeed a significant antecedent to the establishment of a socialist sector of production.
