ABSTRACT

In the following pages I will not be considering socialist theory, ideology and its praxis in high level politics, but only those elements of socialism that have reached the village and the form in which they have done so. What interests us here is what the villagers have experienced of socialism and how they have incorporated that experience into their daily lives and that of the community as a whole. 'Socialist paradigm' therefore, is used here only in the limited sense of the villagers' perception and understanding of socialism.
