ABSTRACT
The formulators of the consensus position can rightly be criticized for failing to give explicit, systematic attention to religious sentiments and public opinion in their deliberations. At the same time, in spite of this oversight, the consensus position is very much in line with current views of the religious community, attitudes of the mass public more generally, and sentiments of bedside caregivers in particular.
