ABSTRACT

Under the Licensing system proposed and adopted by Minnesota's Board of Teaching, all prospective teachers will be required to spend one full school year working as interns under the supervision and guidance of experienced professionals before being licensed to practice independently. Because of its duration, intensity, and unique character, the internship is central to the assessment program. Many things that cannot be observed or measured in the other parts of the assessment system—dispositions, classroom-based skills, and such qualities as patience and stamina—will be cultivated and evaluated during the internship.
