ABSTRACT
Wordsworth is reported to have said that language is not the clothing but the incarnation of thought. Are we justified in rejecting this view that the words and sentences which we utter are themselves our thoughts and not merely the means by which, or the medium in which, we express them? Certainly there seem to be good reasons for maintaining it.
