ABSTRACT

The Humanities department consisted of three teachers. Stephen Barker, who took responsibility for Geography, was the head of department, Peter Mills was responsible for History and also head of fifth year, and Alan Moore was responsible for Religious Education. The three did not share the same commitment to the school as the English teachers. Both Stephen Barker and Peter Mills had been redeployed to the school during re-organizations and admitted that it was not where they would have chosen to work, and Alan Moore saw his stay in the school as a temporary one before he could move on to a promotion. Nevertheless, they were hard-working, conscientious, and experienced teachers who formed a strong department.
