Bloom (though he has had and still has many opponents and objectors) reappraised Browning’s status quite as confidently as T. S. Eliot, and came to very different conclusions. In this way, we could say, Browning survived the onslaught of Modernism and had his reputation gradually rehabilitated in the second half of the twentieth century.
