ABSTRACT
I have argued that the structure of the closures of cultural space is determined by the mechanisms operational within the process of closure and are not the outcome of the character of openness. The theories of science are part of that system of closure and as a result are extended, maintained, and defended in a manner that can in part be predicted independently of the outcome of experiments which are supposedly designed to test the theories concerned.
