ABSTRACT
The term ‘culture’ refers to ‘a learned system of values, beliefs, meanings, rules and practices that are passed from one generation to the next in patterned ways. Culture provides a way of looking at the world and of experiencing it’ (Flaskerud 2000). As such, it will affect beliefs, values, attitudes, ideologies, rules, practices (such as child-rearing, for example), language, family systems, social structures, art, technology and artefacts – in short, ways of thinking and ways of living.
