ABSTRACT
The end of the last glacial period, heralded by global wanning, led to dramatic oscillations in climate superimposed on the global shift from cold to wanner conditions. Some of these oscillations were rather abrupt, severe and short lived. They triggered changes in vegetation and the distribution and biomass of animals as well as the availability and distribution of surface and subsurface water inevitably creating new opportunities for subsistence while foreclosing certain options.
