ABSTRACT
In the last three chapters I have been examining philosophies of history against the backdrop of the practice of history. The argument strategy I have relied on is a demonstration of how the commitments of practice serve to undermine the commitments of theory by presuming a realist style of reasoning, given that our historical interests include the experiential and the causal.
