ABSTRACT
The third reservation is that substantial parts of the productive process are removed from the world in which commodities are traded and exchanged. Examples are social relationships, domestic labour, parenting, and large parts of leisure activities – in other words, a great deal of what really matters in life. As specialists in welfare, we are concerned mainly with how people live their lives, and involvement in the economy is only part of that.
