ABSTRACT
In this chapter I explore Irigaray’s theories of sexual difference and the sexed
subject. Sexual difference is important for architects because it shows how
male and female subjects are culturally and biologically constructed. In addition,
Irigaray’s analysis of sexed subjects is reflected in the different ways that
poststructuralist designers, historians, theorists and critics have explored how
architecture is occupied, designed and built.
