ABSTRACT

I feel as though he has taken his role as a patient to some kind of mad extreme. “Mad,” I reflect, in several senses. Yes, he is supposed to tell me what is on his mind. And I am supposed to be willing and able to hear him. I wonder how much he means to drive me to distraction (literally). I begin to pun, the word “distraction” having given me something to play with. But why am I engaging in word play at this patient’s expense? Maybe I need to take some time off.
