ABSTRACT
These fundamental principles or criteria are discussed by Bell (1997) in Historic Scotland Technical Advice Note 8: The Historic Scotland Guide to International Conservation Charters, and are accepted, via these charters, as the core international principles of conservation response. Selected quotations from the various international charters are used to expand the definitions given below.
