ABSTRACT
Media (plural of medium) can be understood in the dictionary sense of “a means of mas communication, such as newspapers, magazines, or television.” Of course, the ancien Mediterranean world had none of these modern media. How can one translate modern mass communication forms of media, and the industry, institutions, and audience around them, into equivalent ancient social and cultural forms?
