ABSTRACT

Has it been 25 years? Hard to believe that 2004 marked the 25th anniversary of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN), the Disney subsidiary that has revolutionized sports coverage on cable and satellite television. With this anniversary comes the realization by the industry, the academy, and the consumer that the landscape of sports and cable television has changed drastically in the past few decades. What’s most noticeable is what’s at stake today: the corporate revenues and business deals that dictate the people’s access to, and enjoyment of, televised sports coverage and programming.
