ABSTRACT
Climate change has become a key issue on the international political tourism agenda only recently. While global warming received some political attention with the foundation of the IPCC in 1989 and subsequent publication of the IPCC’s First, Second and Third Assessment Reports (FAR, SAR and TAR; IPCC 1990, 1995, 2001), it was not before the publication of the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4, IPCC 2007b) that climate change became a politically broadly acknowledged issue. An understanding of the importance of climate change for tourism also emerged comparably late (Figure 5.1).
