ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with a brief review of the debates surrounding the rights and standing of indigenous peoples within national and international law, with particular emphasis on issues of self-determination, language and education. I will then proceed to discuss the example of Māori in Aotearoa/New Zealand in specific relation to these issues.
