ABSTRACT
Pakistan-serious environmental pollution has been generated by improper recycling methods, according to a report published by Basel Action Network and Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (2002).1
As a solution to this problem, several countries have banned the import of second-hand items and E-waste scrap. There is also support for the idea of amending the Basel Convention so that the export from developed to developing countries of scrap that includes any hazardous materials-even for recyclingshould be banned. The policy issues are discussed in later chapters. The primary objective of this chapter is to overview the environmental pollution accrued by recycling E-waste scrap that has been observed in China, India, and Pakistan. A second objective is to present the background to the global picture of E-waste material flows described above.
