ABSTRACT

The existence of different accounts of reflection without a common definition at their root means that particular features associated with the term have been accentuated or diminished in the definition of the word in order to apply it to the topic in hand. The development of this situation may have been caused by the fact that most writing about reflection relates to a task - such as professional development or the process of learning from experience. For example, the idea of reflection on practice puts emphasis on the manner in which reflection facilitates a reviewing of past action in order to perform better the next time. In contrast, it is the critical purpose that is emphasized when the term is used in relation to social and personal awareness and emancipatory outcomes in conSClousness-ralsmg.
