ABSTRACT
For present purposes "historical linguistics' is a convenient cover term for both linguistic historiography and the history of languages. That is to say, the topic is not only how the language myth affects an institutionalised acadenlic practice, but also the ways in which the nlyth is entwined in the object of study itself and how that object is conceived.
