We have seen in previous chapters how diverse the community can be. Indeed, in Chapter 2 the idea of community was examined in some depth to help explain and understand the complexities that make up communities, and how the police have tried to respond to this in terms of crime reduction partnerships and community policing. This chapter extends the idea of policing communities by examining the introduction of neighbourhood policing and in particular the problem-oriented partnership approach which underpins the community policing idea.
