ABSTRACT
Formal CPD has been around for 30 years in the UK. In the context of the origins of the professions, it is relatively new. Professionals have been developing themselves since professions were formed.1 The youth of CPD is remarkable in the sense that humanity is new in reference to, say, the age of the earth or the span of life on earth. One may well wonder why CPD is not as old as the professions, or at least as old as formal professional qualifications.
