ABSTRACT
The psychoanalytic movement within the APA was spearheaded in 1978 by Reuben Fine, assisted by Robert C. Lane, George D. Goldman, and the late Samuel Kutash. Fine sent a letter to members of Divisions 12 (Clinical) and 29 (Psychotherapy) to determine interest in forming a division of psychoanaly sis within the APA. More than 850 respondents reacted favorably to the proposal.
