ABSTRACT

Two types of forward planning exist in many schools, the overall school development plan and the action plan. The development plan is normally a longer-term plan that sets out the direction in which the school is moving over, say, a five-year period . It will set out targets for progress and achievement and will focus not just on pupils but on staffing and the entire fabric of the school. It will consider the curriculum, the staffing structure, the targets for pupil progress and development, and set out the performance indicators that need to be achieved in order to satisfy the demands of the government, LEA, parents, pupils, staff and the governors of the school. All areas of the school, from academic to non-academic, from full-time to part-time staffing, and the involvement of outside bodies will be encom passed in a whole school development plan.
