ABSTRACT

As the number of schemes grows, and as different schemes arise in a single institution (as in the University of the Witwatersrand - Chapters 9, 10 and 11), it becomes more important than ever for the precise aims of each scheme to be written down. A 'statement of intent' can not only focus the minds of all concerned but can prevent 'turf' issues arising with people feeling that areas of their jurisdiction are being interfered with or ignored.
