Student tutoring at the University of the Witwatersrand: a response to new South African education policy

In stark contrast to the age of apartheid, the new South Africa embodies principles of equity, redress and democracy. Since April 1994, when Nelson Mandela' s African National Congress party came to power these values have underpinned reformist strategies in all aspects of contemporary South African society. As political transition has changed to a period of transfor­ mation their saliency is currently informing new policy in higher education.
