ABSTRACT

Culture and the forces that drive the diversity around us are dynamic. First, we have the Diversity Pathways GCEB-Be with the complex and interactive interplay of five factors, from the macrolevel of environment to the microlevel of gene and neuron (Chapter 2). Second, our culture is not static but rather a “changing” culture, a “diverse” culture, a seemingly “misleading” culture because of the contrast between values and behaviors, and a “contradicting” culture due to paradoxes and the coexistence of opposing values (Chapter 4). Third, the contemporary version of globalization makes the process of reshaping borders even more complicated than in the past (Chapter 1) with new elements (technology, demography, global economy), complex patterns (both flat world and spiky world), and dynamic interaction with local cultures (global goes local, local goes global, and local transforms local).
