ABSTRACT
The serious study of finite groups began in 1872 with the publication of some remarkable results by Ludvig Sylow (1822–1918). In this chapter we’ll consider these theorems, some related results, and some applications. To concentrate on how the Sylow theorems are used, we omit the proofs from this chapter and refer the interested reader to Chapter 22.
