ABSTRACT

Javier is a nine-year-old boy whose family recently immigrated to the US from Costa Rica. He is newly enrolled at Monroe Elementary School. Initial screening tests across the curriculum have revealed that Javier exhibits a range of developmental delays, both in the classroom and in physical education. He has since been referred for in-depth assessment by a motor performance team (MPT) to determine whether his delays might be socioculturally and/or IDEA 2004 related.
