ABSTRACT

Bridget is an 8-year-old child who has been diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Her form of JRA has been specifically diagnosed as polyarticular (poly meaning ‘many’; articular meaning ‘joints’). Bridget’s case is reasonably typical in that pain and swelling is occurring in the small joints of the hands and weight-bearing joints including hips, knees, ankles, and feet.
