ABSTRACT
Abbot of monastery at Mt. Izla and East Syrian (Nestorian) theologian. Born to a family of humble means, Babai studied at Nisibis before becoming a monk at Mt. Izla and going off to found a monastery in "the south." He returned to the Mt. Izla monastery, near Nisibis, where he was named the third abbot of the institution.
