ABSTRACT
The extent of habitat loss and decline and a number of causes of habitat and species decline were described in Chapter 2 in relation to particular community types. This chapter has a more thematic approach. It examines the key factors that have contributed to the decline of lowland grassland and heathland habitats in more detail, and evaluates the management options for habitat maintenance, enhancement, translocation, restoration and creation.
